Digital Blending – Dynamic Range – GIMP

Notice: Undefined variable: read_more in /home/scottp12/public_html/wp-content/themes/traction/archive.php on line 34

When wanting to combine two or more photographs for a higher dynamic range (HDR) or correcting an overexposed photograph, I mostly use programs like Photomatix, however it is sometimes too difficult or frustrating fiddling with the settings for minutes getting nowhere. So, there is an easier way and in certain cases much better than an HDR especially if you want to avoid those really surreal photographs – Digital Blending is the way to go, you can be much more selective with your increases/decreases in dynamic range and get more realistic results.

Shot of the Day #12

I was in Kuala Lumpur in January this year for a short time, less than a week, but I was lucky enough to stay in the KLCC and able to admire the tallest twin towers in the world.

The Petronas Twin Towers (Malay: Menara Berkembar Petronas) (also known as the Petronas Towers or just Twin Towers), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia are twin towers and were the world’s tallest buildings before being surpassed by Taipei 101. However, the towers are still the tallest twin buildings in the world. They were the world’s tallest buildings from 1998 to 2004 if measured from the level of the main entrance to the structural top, the original height reference used by the international organization Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat from 1969 (three additional height categories were introduced as the tower neared completion in 1996). Shot of the Day #9

This was taken in George Town – Penang, Malaysia. A small incense stand on the corner of a road selling the sweet scented incense sticks. I corrected the exposure using levels and vignetted the edges to draw more attention to the centre of the photograph.

This photo was taken in Batu Ferringhi in the late-afternoon sun with the warm light illuminating the right side of the horse and owner, and creating a softer tone. On the beaches of Penang there are heaps of water-sports available: Jet Skiing, Paragliding, Banana Rides, etc; or you could ride along the beach on horse back. So this pair (in the photo) were nearly always waiting at the front gate of my hotel :) .
