This photo isn’t anything too fancy, however I really like this photograph because I managed to get a clear sharp focus on the insect and managed to capture the water droplets as well in the tiny depth of field :P ! I used my kit lens, 18mm-75mm, so it wasn’t a special macro lens. The other factor in this photograph is the clarity achieved from such a large original ( however, reduced the quality for the web), which wouldn’t have been possibly with a low pixel count, whereas 14.2 mega-pixels does help a lot when cropping down!

This was taken in George Town – Penang, Malaysia. A small incense stand on the corner of a road selling the sweet scented incense sticks. I corrected the exposure using levels and vignetted the edges to draw more attention to the centre of the photograph.

I love low pressure sodium lights, they produce such an interesting light and is the one common thing across nearly all night urban-photography making for a great subject. This was taken on the streets of Batu Ferringhi, Penang near the main night markets. I used the smaller aperture to create a more sparkly effect of the light source and to encapsulate all the surroundings with a greater depth of field. I really like the lens flare produce, some people hate it, but in this case here I think it adds greater emphasis to the subject.

This photo was taken in Batu Ferringhi in the late-afternoon sun with the warm light illuminating the right side of the horse and owner, and creating a softer tone. On the beaches of Penang there are heaps of water-sports available: Jet Skiing, Paragliding, Banana Rides, etc; or you could ride along the beach on horse back. So this pair (in the photo) were nearly always waiting at the front gate of my hotel :) .
